An Urban Development Pack:

In “Urban Life”, 5/2008, urban development was discussed from a social perspective. How are human environments and a sustainable society for all constructed? The bumper issue “My Home – My Castle”, 4-5/2007, covers how vital “Million Programme” improvements generate possibilities and opportunities. But do we take advantage of them?

Nursery school in focus

Nursery schools should receive every child on the basis of their own cultural heritage. But an uncertainty about what this means in practice often leads teachers to emphasise it differently. Different views of education and upbringing can degenerate into a tug-of-war about “what is best for the child”. Parental involvement doesn’t always work in the way that parents and teachers hope for or envisage. A dialogue about different norms and methods of education and upbringing is necessary – without questioning or challenging parental role-models. This special feature issue highlights education and upbringing, and parents’ role in the nursery school and during the children’s first years at school.
